BikeBrewers scoop ‘maiden ride’
The Tamarit team from Spain have their very own view on custom building. In a relatively short period of time the Alicante based workshop have managed to carve out a very special niche in the world of customization.
Their 81st build is yet again proof of their highly original way of thinking.
And BikeBrewers sat front row this time!

Our Spanish colleague Thierry Tronquit Prats is also responsible for MotoShare in Spain and Portugal. Having been involved with this build right from the start, he was also bestowed the honour to be the very first one in the world to push the ignition button on the result.

In celebration of this occasion he rode all the way from Madrid to the Tamarit workshop in Elche to launch this project and to try the bike. The results can be seen in the video.

[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/_P8QICToes0″ width=”800″ title=”Tamarit & MotoShare present: ‘The Gotham’!”]

Unique collaboration
MotoShare is Europe’s leading platform for motorcycle rentals. Launched in 2016 they initially made it possible for private motorcycle owners to rent out their bikes. More recently the services were expanded to also include rentals via official motorcycle dealerships.
This addition of services and MotoShare’s focus on international expansion has caused the business to explode in 2021. After a soft launch in Spain in 2019, the goal is to grow even more rapidly in 2021 on the entire Iberian peninsula.

MotoShare have commissioned Tamarit to produce a ‘one of a kind’ MotoShare Triumph. The official launch was held at ‘Irons Caferacer’ in Madrid. The coming months it will be displayed in the major cities around Spain as well as on the Balearic islands.

The best news is that this € 40.000 Triumph build will be available for rent and what’s even better is that this bike will be raffled off at the end of the 2021 riding season on October 31st!

500:1
No, we are not talking about the miles to the gallon here, but on the chances to win this unique piece of art. Only 500 lottery tickets will be sold in this campaign. Just 100 riders will have the opportunity to enjoy the bike for a day and participate in the draw. The remaining 400 participants can only hope that they will be the lucky owner of the Triumph after the draw.

We asked the CEO of MotoShare, Daan van der Wal, about the reasons behind this campaign. He explains: “MotoShare is all about offering memorable motorcycle experiences. Riding a machine like this is probably the epitome of a unique experience! We have already commissioned three builds in previous years offering magnificent riding memories while increasing brand awareness and gain market share in the Benelux. Magnificent bikes were built by Wrench Kings, Ironwood Motorcycles and Moto Adonis.

These bikes were also rented out and raffled off. Tickets sold like hot cakes and the campaigns have really boosted our growth. But this campaign is more elaborate and we are very proud to collaborate with the magicians at Tamarit on this project. We look forward to further expanding in Spain and Portugal in 2021.”

Introducing ‘The Gotham’
As soon as the bike started to take shape, it was clear that ‘the caped one’ would have been proud to ride it. José Antonio of Tamarit says: “We took a 2007 Triumph Bonneville and turned it into this ominous looking machine. It was during a video call that one of the guys from MotoShare mentioned it looked like it was made for Batman. It was ‘The Gotham’ from there on.”

Continuing: “At Tamarit we only work with Triumph as donor vehicles for the bikes we produce. Their reliability is second to none and this particular bike comes from a gentleman that hardly used it since he became the owner back in 2007.”

Inspiration
With the Batcave as the obvious shed for this machine now firmly planted in our heads we pried a bit further to unearth the source of inspiration for the Spanish team. They replied: “The idea was once more to push the boundaries of the Modern Classic bike concept. We wanted to include anything interesting from the Tamarit family book such has the hollow section under the seat, 16″ fat wheels or the Gullwing front fairing. On top of that, a new part was developed from scratch exclusively for this project : the rear fender.

We’re mostly our own source of inspiration, as we always try to keep the same style but without being repetitive. However, anything from 50 years ago may be used as inspiration. There are definitely beautiful things out there.

The guys at MotoShare were great to work with. They basically gave us ‘carte blanche’ to go wild and create our 81st dream bike. And we did!”

Shine versus friction
No build without challenges. You have to have some friction to get a bike to shine like this one does. “So what kept your fabricators awake at night on this project?” BikeBrewers asked.

José responded: “Adapting newly developed parts is always provoking, since handmade parts do not always fit as they should. The biggest challenge is always to make the most beautiful bike possible but being able to ride it comfortably for a bunch of miles. There are awesome and beautiful bikes out there but if it is something you can’t ride to the max, it becomes a ‘soulless’ bike at the end of the day. On top of that the rider’s back and bottom are bound to object going that extra mile!” he grins mischievously.

How it was done
In order to get Batman’s approval the bike had to go through some rigorous changes. The Triumph is heavily modified from top to bottom. Amongst the most significant changes: smaller (16”) but wider wheels, custom triple tee, frame mod, custom front fairing, custom seat, wiring relocation, empty area under the seat, custom rear fender, custom license plate holder.

Parts: The ‘usual’ Motogadget stuff, turning signals and speedometer, HAGON nitro shocks, KN filters topping it off with a magnificent ZARD exhaust.

José continues: “We absolutely love the overall feeling and looks of ‘The Gotham’. It is probably the finest we’ve ever done alongside the Gullwing models.

We are so happy to have Gotham as the bike for the Motoshare – Tamarit collab. It’s genuinely something out of the common that would help greatly both firms interests and aims. As every other classic-styled vehicle, you don’t want to pull a ‘Willy Fogg’ with this bike but it does ride awesome. You definitely can feel the pull while revving the engine. An all-round sports classic bike.”

Expert view
Normally we ask the builder about the handling of his machine. Having been the first one to ever ride ‘The Gotham’ it is BikeBrewer Thierry who has the final word this time: “The magicians from Tamarit have done an amazing job.” he says.

Continuing: “It took us over half a year to get everything together on this project. Not that there were many complications on the build, but putting all the pieces together on this cool marketing exercise was not easy. Especially the insurance bit.

With that all behind us, it was such a joy to have the honour to ride this dream on wheels! It handles perfectly and the mechanics have added an nice extra punch to this carburettor version. Riding ‘The Gotham’ makes you fantasize about being Batman in hot pursuit of the villains.
Pure unadulterated fun!

Another month of 2017 behind us, another Bikes of the Month on BikeBrewers.com with some interesting machines. The interesting part is that all five machines here are built around a base bike we don’t see that often. We’ve got four (!) out of the box Honda’s: a Shadow 600, a CG125, an FX650 and an NTV650. And since I didn’t want this month to be a “Honda only”-party, I’ve got a beautiful Buell XB Cafe Racer….

Honda Shadow Special

Honda Shadow Special 1

Grabbing a cruiser like the Honda Shadow and turn it into something sporty isn’t easy, but not impossible. The guys from D-I Motorsport from Kuala Lumpur saw this as a cool challenge and started building a Shadow 600 from the ground up. The result? Well just take a look! [read more]

Buell XB Cafe Racer

Buell XB Cafe Racer

Amazing creation by Ask Motorcycles from Japan based on a Buell XB. A mixture of a classic cafe racer and a modern supersport. Owner/builder Rad Yamamoto really pushed his skills in metal fabrication with the alloy body. He tried to create both “slick” and “organic” lines. A design that worked out well on the machine. The machine is named “Kanna”, which means “No God” in Japanese. On the annual Hot Rod & Custom Show in Yokohama, the bike even was the reason to create a new category in the awards section. Honda CG125 Cafe Racer

Honda CG125 Cafe Racer

We all know the usual suspects for building a cafe racer, with the Honda CB-series and BMW R-series as the most popular platforms. Small displacement bikes are usually skipped, but in my opinion, a small bike can also be a great base for building a custom motorcycle. And if we’re talking about small displacement motorcycles, you roughly have two places on the world that pop-up: Asia or Brasil. On these places small bikes are a common way of cheap transportation. Luckily there are some people out there who are not afraid to turn these practical (and rather ugly) machines into something special, just like Fernando Casado, a product design student from Brasil. He took a 1980 Honda CG125 and turned it into a beautiful looking, classic cafe racer. [read more]

“Fusqvarna”

FX650 Scrambler 6

This may look like a strange name for a bike that’s actually a Honda FX650. But it’s not the frame or the engine that’s in the center of this build, it’s the mythical gas tank of the Husqvarna back in the 70s and 80s. Since that’s the only Husqvarna part of this machine. The builder, Le Garage Félix (which you may know from this KLR650 Scrambler) made their own version of the Husky; Fusqvarna (with the F from Felix). For a second they were thinking about calling it “Fucksvarna”, but they didn’t want to disrespect the heritage of the brand. And the result is this minimalistic Honda FX650 Scrambler…[read more]

Honda NTV650 Cafe Racer

Honda NTV650 Cafe Racer

Another cool machine built by our Dutch friend Wido Veldkamp, owner of Wimoto. The project was born to surprise his wife for her birthday and the donor is pretty unusual: a Honda NTV650. “An ugly bike with no potential. At least, that’s wat most people think” says Wido. First he wanted to build a scrambler of it, but after fitting some new parts, he changed his plans and mounted a beautiful half fairing which soon changed the aesthetics of the bike making it more looking like a cafe racer. “The Green Goblin” was starting to take shape… [read more]

Bikes of the Month March 2017

While some may have a 12 month motorcycle season, here in Holland we’re glad if we can ride 6 or 7 months a year. Of course, there are some hardcore purists who ride all year, but unless you have a Husqvarna with ski’s, I wouldn’t recommend it. But the spring kicked in a bit early and a lot of riders have removed the dust of their bikes with the first happy miles. But let’s take a look back a what March 2017 offered us.

Moto Guzzi Griso Tracker

Moto Guzzi Griso Tracker

One of the finalists in Moto Guzzi’s custom motorcycle battle “Lord of the Bikes”, based on a Moto Guzzi Griso. A real flat tracker that actually is build for racing and not only build for show and shine. And if you take a look at the rather bulky, but powerful Griso, you know that this was not an easy task. The bike lost over 50kg of weight to a respectable 170kg. With 110 horses on the rear wheel and no front brake…[read more]

Honda CR500 Tracker

Honda CR500 Tracker

“Not for kids or pussies”,  that’s what a seller of his Honda CR500 once stated in his Craigslist ad. It’s clear that the 53hp of the single cylinder 2-stroke powerhouse is not made for everybody. Adam Hedges of C’s Garage and the Earnest company has built race cars the past 10 years but always had a strong love for 2-stroke motorcycles, with Honda’s CR500 as the ultimate bike. So he decided to build his own flat tracker based on this monster. [read more]

Moto Guzzi 950 by Stile Itialino

Moto Guzzi 950

As a Guzzi rider I may have a slight preference for custom bikes based on the Italian brand. And if you know a little about the brand, you may know that the 850cc T3 is a beloved machine, especially in its original state. But that was no reason for the guys from Stile Itialiano to customize it. Inspired by the legendary Honda CR750 racer, their “CR950” hits a sweet spot. [read more]

Yamaha XS650 Tracker by H-Garage

Yamaha XS650 Tracker

Cool Yamaha XS650 Tracker built by H-Garage. A project that went from “I only need to freshen the bike up”, to “a complete custom motorcycle project”. According to Scott Halbleib, owner of H-Garage, there is no such thing as a budget build and he convinced the owner of the XS to go for a full build-out of this machine. Finished with the recognizable Gulf color scheme that actually worked out pretty well for this bike. [read more]

bikes of the month - february

The custom motorcycle scene seems to be really kicking of now. In this Bikes of the Month section we have some real cool machines. Why I usually feature around 4 to 5 bikes in this section, I now had a hard time te decided which ones where in, so I’ve put in 6 machines.

Honda CB750 by Ace Custom Shop

CB750 Cafe

Awesome looking Honda CB750 cafe racer. An impressive piece of work from the heart of Colombia, built by Ace Custom Shop. The bike got some real serious upgrades. The front and rear suspension come from a CB1000RR. The rear end needed a monoshock conversion. It may look like a bit overkil for this machine, but according the guys from Ace it’s absolutely necessary to have some serious suspension on their Colombian roads. They’ve put in all in a “classic-meets-modern” jacket and the result is simply stunning. [read more]

Triumph Street Tracker by Mule

Triumph Street Tracker

This Triump Street Tracker by Mule Motorcycles is built for a customer in Norway, who’s only able to ride a bike 3 months a year. And if you take a look at it, it’s a pity that this awesome ride has to stand in a garage for 9 months. Inspired by the trackers in the old days of track racing in the 70s and stuffed with more modern day technology than the most factory bikes have these days. [read more]

Ducati 848 “Evo Racer” by NCT

Ducati 848 Evo Racer 1

I know that 2017 only just started, but this machine by NCT Motorcycles is already one of my personal favorites. It’s based on the beastly Ducati 848 Evo and NCT gave it a nice classic look and that awesome olive green touch. But to be honest, it’s more a racer than a cafe; the high-end machine with around 140hp is a serious weapon on the track. [read more]

Husqvarna 501 Tracker by LOON

Husqvarna BS501 Tracker 6

Ice cool Husqvarna 501 Tracker built bij LOON Cycleworks. When I saw this machine the first time, I knew that it had something special. Same goes for our readers because this machine melted down the internet. It got liked, shared and reposted many, many times and even was featured in the bikes of the week section of BikeEXIF. With 2 sets of wheels you have that good old supermoto at your disposal, and when you go off the road, just put on the dirt wheels and play around [read more]

Yamaha TRX850 Cafe Racer by Seb Hipperson

Yamaha TRX850 Cafe Racer

Based on the Yamaha TRX850, also called “poor mens Ducati” since it was meant as a direct competitor of the Ducati 900SS. A base bike that we don’t see that often. Unlike the 900SS, the TRX was not a big sales hit, but amongst motorcycle lovers the bike is called one of the “best kept secrets” and a “forgotten gem”. Bespoke furniture maker Seb Hipperson from Londen had that same love for the TRX and decided to build his own TRX850 Cafe Racer [read more]

Honda CB400 Cafe Racer by RetroRides

Honda CB400 Cafe Racer

No matter how many times I see a Honda CB cafe racer, if it’s executed the right way, it never gets bored. But yes, a lot of them look the same… But this beauty takes it to another level. It’s one of the best CB’s I’ve seen in a long time. And it was clear that others thought the same: it got so many likes and shares that this already could be a candidate for the best custom of 2017 (but maybe I’m riding to fast right now…) [read more]

bikes of the month - january 2017

After our photo contest for Best Custom of 2016, we’re up for a new Bikes of the Month. Like every month we’ve selected the best customs from around the web. This month we have a Ducati 750 from Down Under, a BMW K100 from the US, a Yamaha XSR700 from France, a Moto Guzzi V10 from the US and a radical Triumph Legend TT from Italy.

Ducati 750SS “Emola Evo” by VeeTwo

Ducati 750SS by Vee Two 6

A bike from Down Under with pure racing genes. Built on their own designed “Ritorno” engine with a genuine ’81 900 MHR frame, this “Emola Evo” by VeeTwo is a classic racer built for the track. Great lines and high-performance parts make this bike not only look good, it’s also capable of doing serious lap times… [read more]

BMW K100 Cafe Racer by Mike Flores

BMW K100 Mike Flores 11

The BMW K-series is rapidly becoming a top pick as a basis for custom projects. This K100 is built by “first timer” Mike Flores from Los Angeles. His goal was to keep the squared lines and angles in place and honor massive engine.

The images got a lot of likes on Facebook and Instagram and I didn’t took long for Mike’s bike to get featured on BikeEXIF. Not bad for a first project! [read more]

Yamaha XSR700 “Dirty Smoke” by MotoMax Metz

XSR700 Scrambler

With the introduction of Yamaha’s XSR-series it was clear that it was designed to be customized. One of the first (and still one of the best) for sure is the XSR700 Scrambler by JvB Moto. The bike you see here is built by MotoMax Metz, a Yamaha dealer from France. The XSR700 they call “Dirty Smoke” is inspired by JvB’s design and created with bolt-on parts… [read more]

Moto Guzzi V10 Centauro by Rodsmith Motorcycles

Guzzi V10 Centauro

As a Guzzi rider I always love to see Guzzi’s, especially the custom ones. This gorgeous machine is built by Craig Rodsmith, owner of Rodsmith Motorcycles. He calls himself a master/builder/fabricator/painter/designer and he worked on all kinds of motorized machines, from mopeds to WW2 fighter planes. What you see here is a customized Moto Guzzi V10 Centauro; a somewhat bulky tourer. The only bulky thing on this classic cafe racer is the massive engine… [read more]

Triumph Legend TT by XTR Pepo

Rocket by XTR

To be honest: I love every machine that is build by Pepo Rosell, so it’s obvious that I feature his work on a regular basis. But I’m not the only one; every single creation turns out to be gold. If he posts one of his projects, it got shares, likes and posts all over the web in no time. This machine is called “Rocket” and is based on a Triumph Legend TT… [read more]

Customs

2016 was an awesome ride! The custom motorcycle scene is more alive than ever and BikeBrewers.com is very successful in becoming a well-known place to find inspiration for custom bikes. Just like 2015, I want to look back at last year with a top 10 overview of the best custom motorcycles we saw. I didn’t focussed on BikeBrewers.com only, just like in the Bikes of the Month section I’ve looked around the entire web and base the ranking upon likes, responses, buzz etc. But different than last year, I picked 30 motorcycles that I personally loved and let you guys vote for a top 10. So no hard data or statistics, simply a subjective view where the ones with the most “voting power” wins. The result is the top 10 below:

#10: BMW R100 by NCT Motorcycles

BMW R100 Café Racer by NCT Motorcycles

A radical looking BMW R100 built by NCT Motorcycle from Germany called “Black Stallion” stuffed with high-end parts and materials like Öhlins suspension, hand crafted exhaust systemem, Akrapovic muffler, MotoGadget M-unit wiring etc. This won’t be the best bike for your daily miles, but it sure will draw attention when riding it. This machine made it to #10 with 723 votes. [read more]

#9: Honda CB550 by NCT Motorcycles

Honda CB550 Café Racer by NCT Motorcycles

Two machines of one builder in the top 10? Yes, I know that this looks arguably. But I did mention that this list is a bit subjective? This is another cool creation of NCT Motorcycles and based on the beloved Honda CB550. It’s one of those machines that has something special, but it’s not really one thing that you can point. Maybe it’s the simple and classic “cafe racer look”, or maybe it’s just because of the red details. Anyway, you guys liked it: 807 votes [read more]

#8: Moto Guzzi “MGR 1200” by Radical Guzzi

Moto Guzzi "MGR1200" by Radical Guzzi

As a Guzzi rider, this one was my personal favorite. Not really retro, but also no supersport. It’s a class of its own. The so-called “MGR 1200” by Radical Guzzi shows a perfect mix between the legendary Moto Guzzi heritage and modern technology. 1009 votes for the MGR1200. [read more]

#7: Yamaha RD350 Cafe Racer by Iron Custom Motorcycles

Yamaha RD350 Café Racer by Iron Custom Motorcycles

An extraordinary piece of engineering from Ukrain with almost nothing original or stock on it. Based on a Yamaha RD350 but transferred into a 555cc triple cylinder machine. A little machine with some serious power and brutal 2 stroke sound. Finished on #7 with 1476 votes. [read more]

#5: Ducati 350 Pantah by Capêlos Garage

Ducati Pantah 350 Café Racer by Capêlos Garage

It’s A Ducati in the mix with a Cagiva resulted in this “350 Pantah”. The bike drew a lot of attention during the 2016 Bike Shed London and melted down social media. This small machine got 1921 votes; good enough for #5. [read more]

#4: Buell XB9 Cafe Racer by Iron Pirate Garage

Buell XB9 Café Racer by Iron Pirate Garage

On of the most eye-catching machines I’ve featured here with a lot of likes on social media. Even our friends of BikeEXIF picked up this machine and gave it a place in their “Bikes of the Week” section. It got 2001 votes, good to be listed #4 in this overview. [read more]

#3: Suzuki GS550 Boardtracker by Wimoto

De Angelis has a strong fan base which resulted in 3701 votes to rocketeer this machine to the #1 of this top 10. [read more]

#BONUS#: Harley Davidson Café Racer by Zadig Motorcycles

This awesome Harley Davidson Café Racer is circling around the web, but there isn’t much to tell about. The only thing I know is that it’s built by Zadig Motorworks and that it’s called “Balboa” (yes, from that boxing movie). The aesthetics of this machine are outstanding and I thought it was worth noticing as a bonus in this top 10.

As some of my readers don’t know a real winter season for riding, here in Holland only the real die hards and commuters ride their motorcycles. I’ve cleaned and hugged my V7 Racer, to get it back out in March or April next year. This gives me also the time to start working on my own shed project, which only collected dust the last few months… Riding season of, shed build season on!

In Novembers’ Bikes of the Month we have a alcoholic Indian Scout, two beautiful Honda CB’s, a cool Guzzi SP1000 and a timeless Truimph TR6.

Indian Scout “Jack Daniels Black Label”

indian-scout-jack-daniels

Custom Indian motorcycles are not featured that often here, so it was about time that a cool custom would pop up. About a year ago I’ve featured this beautiful Indian Scout by Roland Sands Design (listed #5 in our Top 10 Custom Motorcycles of 2015) and earlier this year this cool Indian Scout Boardtracker. This last one was a true masterpiece as a result of the Indian dealer build-off called “Project Scout“. The machine, built by Motos Illimitees, melted down the internet and was the obvious winner of this challenge.

The bike was an anniversary edition to tribute both the 115 year old heritage, as well as the 150th anniversary of Jack Daniels. They decided that it was time for another “Indian Scout Jack Daniels Edition”, but this time a “Black Label”. [read more]

Honda CB750 “Woody” by Spencer Tull

woody-honda-cb750-2

CB café racers are becoming more and more standard. Lot’s of cafe racers are built on this platform and they get a bit boring. But just like the CB550 below, there are some creations that still are worth sharing. This beautiful CB750 is built by shed builder Spencer Tull and has a clear theme: “wood”. Beautiful and ultra clean creation. [read more]

Moto Guzzi SP1000 “MagmaMille” by Officine Rossopuro

guzzi-sp1000-scrambler

An Italian ride built for the typical geographic characteristics of the city Napels: a crowded urban area and just outside the city a lot of twisty roads up in the mountains. Officine Rossopuro called this ride a “City Scrambler” and it’s based on a Moto Guzzi SP1000. It’s titled “MagmaMille”, referring to the magma in mount Vesuvius and the 1000cc’s of the Guzzi’s powerful engine. [read more]

Honda CB550 Café Racer by NCT Motorcycles

cb550-cafe-racer

The Honda CB is still going strong as a solid base bike for cafe racers. But to be honest, we see a lot of similar designs and builds; these bikes tend to get a little bit boring. But sometimes there pops up a machine that makes me look twice. Same goes for this CB550 cafe racer built by NCT Motorcycles. It’s not really the aesthetics of the machine, but I think this is more a matter of design and using the right colors at the right place. Lovely to see. [read more]

Triumph TR6 by The Gasbox

triumph-tr6-custom

A timeless designed ’60 Triumph TR bobber built as a “replacement” for a priceless Indian. Owner Kirk missed out the auction of a classic Indian motorcycle in Las Vegas, but he knew the former owner (Jesse Basset of The GasBox) had some magic hands, so he called him afterwards to ask if he could create something special out of his old Triumph. [read more]

Another month, another overview of the best custom motorcycles from around the web. This month a vintage Harley Davidson, a pure performance rocket Ducati, a KTM on high heels, another Ducati and a beautiful BMW R nineT inspired by it’s ancestor. Welcome the best bikes of October 2016

Custom Harley-Davidson by Studio Motor

custom-harley-sportster-6

As a motorcycle enthusiast you simply could not miss Discovery’s mini series “Harley and the Davidsons“. If you like Harley’s or not, this really is a one one watch. I think that us Dutchieseven like it better because the our “local star in Hollywood” Michiel Huisman is starring. Watching it boosted my personal feelings for the American brand (yes, it’s a bit more romanticized, but who cares?) and it may be a coincidence or not, but Donny Ariyanto of Studio Motor revealed this cool looking custom Harley-Davidson. [read more]

Ducati Monster 1200 R by Young Guns

ducati-monster-1200-custom

Nick Heer and Fabian Witzig from Young Guns Speedshop took a 2016 Ducati Monster 1200 R and where inspired by the legendary Ducati’s of the 70’s, like the 750 sport and 900ss. Mixing a high tech GP bike with the classic lines of the glory days. The result is a bike under 200kg with more than 160hp. [read more]

KTM 250 SX-F Scrambler by Engineered to Slide

ktm-250-tracker

Some custom motorcycle designs simply turns heads. This out of the box machine also turns heads, A LOT of heads. Our friends from BikeBound.com posted an image of this KTM 250 SX-F on Instagram and the servers almost went down. It’s a pure fun machine built by Nigel Petrie of Engineered to Slide. [read more]

Ducati 860 Café Racer by Fuller Moto

ducati-860

Sometimes we buy things with no clear plan in mind. Same goes for this ’75 Ducati 860. Bryan Fuller from Fuller Moto bought this bike years ago and the machine was untouched for years. Untill Bryan Heidt, a worker from Fuller Moto kept a Benelli Mojave gas tank to the frame; love at first sight and the project was born. [read more]

BMW R nineT by RSD

r-nine-t-rsd

Roland Sands Design is one of those names that seem to turn everything in gold by only touching it. Even before the BMW R nine T officially was launched, RSD laid their hands on the pre-production bike. But that’s already three years ago, so they thought it was time for yet another awesome R NineT, this time inspired by one of it’s ancestors; the 1936 R5. [read more]

A BMW from the Bavarian mountains, an undefined but complex engineered 3 cylinder 2-stroke from Ukraine, a Kawasaki Vulcan S from Germany and an out of the box Suzuki GS550 from Holland. Meet our best custom bikes of September 2016.

BMW R100R Café Racer “DA#7” by Diamond Atelier

Since the guys from Diamond Atelier started in the summer of 2013, every single creation is simply spot on. We’ve featured some of their builds here and we see them back on sometoplists we’ve published. Their third build, the “DA#3” literally melted down the web. Just like this one, it’s based on a BMW R100R and is already their 7th bike. [read more]

An undefined 2-Stroke, 3 Cylinder Rocket

Do yo remember this cool RD135 Café Racer? A real dapper 135cc 2 stroke machine. This little machine produced an impressive 18hp. But what if you take the engine of his bigger brother, the RD350, and redesign the engine to a 555cc triple cylinder? Well, that’s exactly what the guys from Iron Custom Motorcycles (ICM) from Ukraine did. The result? “Project Beckman”: a lightweight, 50hp 2 stroke rocket that runs over 200km/h! [read more]

Kawasaki Vulcan S “The Underdog” Sprint Machine

A bulky Kawasaki Vulcan S as a sprint machine? That would not be my first guess… But maybe you remember the awesome Vulcan S Cafe Racer built by Oficina MRS? In terms of style this creation shows us that it is possible to make a beautiful cafe racer of the Vulcan. But what about true speed? The guys from Essenza from Germany took the challenge to built a sprint machine for the Essenza 1/8 mile sprint races we saw at the Glemseck festival. [read more]

A Different View on the Suzuki GS550

A while bike on the Dutch “Motorbeurs” I spoke to Wido Veldkamp, owner of Wimoto, about his ongoing project that he was displaying there. It was not finished at all, but it was very clear that he was working on something different. Most eye catching feature of this bike, which was a Suzuki GS550 in the early days, was the odd front suspension and the cool stance of the machine. I advises Wido to wait with posting pictures of this machine and that he should submit his project at Bike EXIF. And he did… He got a big fat feature here. Great work! [read more]

Holiday season is behind us, we saw a little “dip” in the amount of new custom motorcycles out there, but nevertheless we same some real cool creations this month. This month we have a wide variety of bikes: we have a Moto Guzzi, Honda CBX, a Honda CRF (!), a Triumph Thruxton and a BMW R100R.

Moto Guzzi “MGR 1200” by Radical Guzzi

Not really retro, but also no supersport. It’s a class of it’s own. The so called “MGR 1200” shows a perfect mix between the legendary Moto Guzzi heritage and modern technology. Engineers Stefan Bronold and designer Kay Rieman (supported by the Piaggo Group for “Essenza”) placed a the 1151cc V-twin of the Moto Guzzi Stelvio and gearbox in a classic Tonti frame. [read more]

Honda CBX Cafe Racer by Nick O’Kane

Nick O’Kane is a guy that follows his passion for 2 and 4 wheel performance and works for K&N (yes, the air filter company). Nick is the Powersports Sales Manager by day, and a custom bike builder by night. His latest creation is this Honda CBX Cafe Racer, a real track bike built for performance. [read more]

Honda CRF Tracker by Marcus Moto Design

Marcus Carlsson, manager at Ericsson by day, custom bike builder by night wanted to create the ultimate tracker.

“Ultimate in my mind means minimal bodywork, centralized weight distribution, lightweight carbon fiber and a ‘concept motorcycle’ feel,” he says. And with a modern aluminum motocross frame and a powerful four-stroke thumper engine, the CRF fitted the bill.

Triumph Thruxton by Icon1000

Icon 1000 have just unveiled their newest range of riding gear and with it comes a new website and more importantly a new custom build! The latest motorcycle to join the Icon 1000 ranks has been baptised the “Three Martini Lunch”. Less post apocalyptic in its design than the previous Icon 1000 bikes, I’m happy to say that the 3ML leans more towards the cafe racer aesthetic we love so much; and what better base could they select for such a build than a British born and bred Triumph Thruxton. [read more]

BMW R100 by Sinroja Motorcycles

“Minimal design, maximum impact”, that is what the brothers Rahul and Birju Sinroja try to accomplish when they’re working on custom motorcycles. This BMW R100 is only their 3rd build (R3) and looking at R1 and R2 it’s clear that the brother Sinroja are taking their jobs very serious. Every single part has been taken care of, from a complete engine rebuild to a wide range of custom made parts. We’re looking forward to their next creations!
