Yamaha XV920 Café Racer by Moto-Von

The Yamaha Virago is a becoming more and more popular as a base bike for café racers. Despite the odd lines of the original machine, it can be turned into something beautiful. And one of the best parts of the Virago is the powerful V-twin engine. Good for us is that Yamaha produced tens of thousands of Virago’s in the 80’s and 90’s and that you can buy them at reasonable prices.

Kurt von Blanckensee, the owner of Moto-Von based in Morgantown (WV, US) decided to turn an old Virago into a XV920 Café Racer. This is the result:

A lot of painting and powder coating

Yamaha XV920 Virago Custom by David Bailey

The Yamaha Virago is a very popular base bike for a cafe racer project. The creator of this bike, David Bailey, not only wanted a “head turner” but also a bike which can be ridden daily. He found a XV920 in poor state and took it under his wings. He completely build this bike with is own hands, which took him a year. The result is great!

XV750 gas tank with gravity feed petcocks
Mikuni VM34 carbs

1985 XV1000 engine
No rear mirror but something cooler: a rear view camera!

Virago XV920 by Classified Moto

Classified Moto, a Richmond (US) based brewer made an awesome looking custom (the type is not really specified as café racer, bratstyle or scrambler, just “classified”) based on a ’82 Yamaha XV920 Virago, they’ve called the “Shreveport Slammer”.

Some mods:

2010 Yamaha R6 front end
Benelli Mojave gas tank
Custom stainless exhaust
Custom subframe with a nice “floating” custom seat
